Oral Cancer Exam
Every time you come into our office for a regular dental check-up,
you are examined for oral cancer. Oral cancer is very rare,
but smoking, excessive alcohol consumption, and chewing smokeless
tobaccos can increase the risk. Oral cancer is a very fast growing,
aggressive cancer. Like other cancers, early detection usually
means a better prognosis and successful treatment. Cancer is
most commonly found on the sides of your tongue known as the
lateral border. For those who chew tobacco, the most common
location is right where the tobacco sits in the mouth, usually
the inside of the lip or cheek. If you have any concerns or
notice any unusual growths in your mouth, contact your dentist
immediately for an examination. Like all cancers, oral cancer
can be fatal if not caught and treated early enough. |
